FAQ

Philosophy -   Providing handmade, quality, lasting, locally crafted furniture at the same price as mass-produced product made from fake material.  Supporting local manufacturing by featuring authentic furniture made by Canadians, for Canadians. We aim to provide you with an affordable and stylish alternative to MDF, veneered and mass-produced furniture with simple and classic designs which are functional and built to last.

Construction - Real Wood produced in sustainable managed North American forests. There are absolutely no "fake" materials such as low-quality MDF or Veneer.  All furniture is handmade in Ontario, Canada using traditional woodcraft techniques.

Where is the furniture made? - All of our products are made locally by our partner located in Springwater, Ontario.

Delivery or Pickup - Note that delivery is free within the Durham Region.   Product will be brought to the first "dry" area of your home for you to stage as desired for most shipments.  Note that disposable packaging is eliminated to minimize excess trips to the landfill.  Larger shipments combined with longer travel may be palletized for logistical purposes and be delivered to curbside only.  Pickup is free if desired in Brooklin or Barrie .  Simply choose this option during checkout if desired.

Can I see the product in person? -  To keep overhead low and pass savings onto our customers - we do not have a traditional showroom at this time. Contact us for more information on how to see an item in person. Alternatively  Swatches are available for purchase through our site.

Is Customization Available? -  At this time we are not offering modification to these pieces.

Assembly Required? - No.  Our handmade products are cut, milled, crafted & finished complete by Canadian craftsman.  *Exceptions for shipping purposes may be made for some items (toy chest lids, table legs).

Expectations - Rustic furniture may still have sawdust from manufacturing and require a final wipe down.  Since all products are made from real wood, no two pieces will be absolutely alike.  Product is handmade evolving from raw material grown in our forests, and you will notice natural detail such as knots, grain patterns, fastener detail, and tooling marks unique to your own handcrafted furniture piece.  Exact colour matching using our standard finishes with existing pieces in your home is also discouraged, as 100% matching is impossible.  If an exact match is desired, it is recommended an unfinished piece is purchased and finished as required.

*You Are Purchasing Real Wood: The entire line is real wood.  Wood is a natural product that will be affected by the elements:  Moist climates will make wood swell, drier climates will make it shrink, and because of this movement over the life of the product, some cracks, splits and warping can be expected.  These small imperfections should be embraced as part of the truth and beauty of real wood furniture.

Caring for your furniture - As all furniture supplied is made from solid wood, it's natural to develop small cracks, splits or warps caused by shrinking and / or expanding.  These are not defects but rather a natural behavior of the pine as it becomes acclimatized to its environment.  Due to contrasting moisture levels in the air, wood will evolve differently in different regions of the country.  Small imperfections also accentuate the uniqueness of your individual handmade furniture piece. If you wish touch up small imperfections yourself, try the Trade Secret® Touch-Up System for Wood (www.tradesecret.ca).  It offers all of the tools necessary to repair scratches, gouges and restore colour.

If splits develop that are large enough to affect the aesthetic or structural integrity of the piece, please contact us and we will be happy to either arrange an exchange or issue a partial credit, depending on the problem.

Lead time - Since all products are made to order with your desired finishes and hardware, lead time depends on current volume in manufacturing.  Typical production time for Rustic furniture is  5-6 weeks + shipping, however may expedite this during slow business periods or for certain popular items.  Sale/Stock items are available for pick up immediately and delivery times are based on the next available shipment to your designated area. Contact us for an update on current lead times.

Returns - Since all product is handmade specifically to your order, there are no returns accepted on correctly delivered pieces. However if the wrong product, finish, or hardware was accidentally delivered to your home - we will of course gladly take it back free of charge.  Note that if the finish was delivered as requested, however different than expected, a refund or credit will not be issued.
